The body of the father missing since Wed. has been found near Bibb Pond

Crews in Columbus confirm the body of the father missing since Wed. has been found near Bibb Pond.

According to the Muscogee County Coroner's Office, 27-year-old James R. Rabon was found near the area where he and his son were last seen fishing.

They say, they're still on a mission to find the body of  his four-year-old son.

The two went under in Bibb Pond Wednesday evening while fishing at the Riverwalk.

Columbus Fire and EMS Battalion Chief Bryan Watson says weather conditions were more conducive to search crews during Friday's efforts. The crews stayed out until dark.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) helicopter made rounds Thursday morning and afternoon, and again Friday. Divers are also a part of the search efforts.

Battalion Chief Watson says new equipment was installed on the boats Thursday night, and Georgia Power loaned searcher a camera that can reach places the divers can't.

"We always feel hopeful, we want to find them, and again, we are doing everything we can to find them...Everything we've got, we've got on the water with the manpower, so we're hopeful. We would like to bring it to a close not only for us, but for the family, and that's our goal," says Battalion Chief Watson.

The family still requests their privacy be respected, but they say they are grateful for the efforts Columbus Fire and EMS and DNR are putting in.
