Five area girls teams advance to GHSA semifinals

COLUMBUS, Ga - Five area girls teams advanced to the Georgia High School Association semifinals with wins in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

Harris County's Jessika Carter scored the go-ahead basket for the Lady Tigers with 40 seconds left and a last second three-point attempt from Carrollton was off the mark, as Harris County held on for the 45-43 victory. Carter, who is signed to play at Mississippi State, also surpassed the 2,000 point mark for her career in the game.

The Carver Lady Tigers pulled away from North Oconee in the third quarter to reach the 4A semifinals for the third-straight year with a 68-26 win.

On the other side of the 4A bracket, Americus-Sumter won on the road against Marist, 42-37, to advance to the semifinals.

In 1A, Marion County won at home, 65-56 over Pelham. Greenville took down Wheeler County at home 71-62.
