Signing Day for Auburn, Opelika and Beauregard

More than a 100 local athletes signed today, and over in East Alabama, a total of 26 athletes in Auburn, Opelika and Beauregard picked up the pen.

Wednesday morning started off with two signees from Beauregard in McKane Atkins and Danyton Thomas who signed with UAB football.

"This is what I've been looking forward to since I was young," Thomas said. "It's pretty big for me. They said I have a chance to start too."

Opelika's signing day featured four football players: Deandre Butler, Jamias Presley, Callahan Saggus and Justin Lewis who's playing in Division 1 for the University of Massachusetts.

"It's amazing. When I went up there to visit they treated me like family. I love the coaches, the teammates, everything was just amazing," Lewis said. "I just got to get my education right that's my main priority."

Auburn High School was stocked with 20 athletes being recognized with half of those from the football team and two others heading to D1 for baseball.

"A lot of emotions going through my mind," Coastal Carolina signee Wes Starr said. "I'm shaking right now still thinking about it. It was great."

His teammate amd future Auburn baseball pitcher Brooks Fuller felt the same.

"Really cool moment," Fuller said. "I've been sitting here for three years watching this happen so it's really cool to actually be a part of it."

A part of signing day Wednesday and college athletics in the near future.
