MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - House Speaker Mike Hubbard says he's assured the governor that the Legislature will make sure Alabama is competitive for the Boeing 777X aircraft assembly plant. Hubbard says he and Gov. Robert Bentley have had discussions about Boeing and have gone over different scenarios about what the Legislature could do to help.
FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - The former treasurer of a volunteer fire department in Northern Alabama has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for embezzling more than $39,000. The TimesDaily of Florence reports 52-year-old Shirley Ann Weeks will receive credit for three months of time served and will serve the rest of her sentence on probation.
SHEFFIELD, Ala. (AP) - Towns in north Alabama are postponing their Christmas parades due to the threat of heavy rain. Forecasters predict parts of north Alabama could get 3 or 4 inches of rains by Monday, and 5 inches could fall in isolated areas. Some storms could have 50 mph winds.
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Gus Malzahn thinks quarterback Nick Marshall "should be in the mix" for the Heisman Trophy. Marshall has led the third-ranked Tigers into the Southeastern Conference championship game Saturday against No. 5 Missouri with clutch plays and increasing proficiency.
