BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Two men who ran Richard Joseph SalonSpas in Mountain Brook and Inverness were sentenced on Tuesday to three years in prison. Authorities say Richard Joseph Smith and Timothy Euell Brown also were ordered to pay $1.4 million in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service for a tax fraud conspiracy.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police say they are investigating a rash of six killings this past week, including one shooting in the Ensley area in which a man died in a burst of gunfire. Birmingham police also say they've identified a woman found fatally stabbed in her home on Sunday, 70-year-old Linda Allbritton.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Laclede Group has completed its purchase of Alabama's largest natural gas utility, Birmingham-based Alabama Gas Corp. Laclede announced the completion of the deal with Energen on Tuesday and says it involved about $1.3 billion in cash.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - One of the best-known planes from World War II is scheduled to visit Montgomery in October, giving area residents the chance to fly in it.The restored B-17 bomber, known as the "Flying Fortress," will be at Dannelly Field and available for tours and flights from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2.
