ATLANTA (AP) - The family of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is warning Georgia's governor that it wants input on any monument to King that might be erected on the grounds of the state Capitol. Gov. Nathan Deal in January said he'd work with the Legislature on such a monument.
ATLANTA (AP) - The list of Georgia candidates running for state and federal offices in the May 20 primaries has been set. Candidate qualifying for the 2014 elections ended at noon today. Gov. Nathan Deal drew two Republican primary opponents - state School Superintendent John Barge and Dalton Mayor David Pennington. State Sen. Jason Carter is the only Democrat running for governor.
ATLANTA (AP) - Morris Brown College has won approval from a court to sell some property on its Atlanta campus. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the school received bankruptcy court approval yesterday to market and sell its property through a real estate broker. The cash-strapped historically black institution filed for bankruptcy in August 2012.
ATLANTA (AP) - Broadway star Audra McDonald will perform at the fourth annual symphony gala. The Tony and Grammy Award-winner will be the featured performer with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the orchestra's talent development program.
