ELIZABETHTON, TN -

Elizabethton Police want to find the man who robbed a bank almost 7 years ago and then vanished.

"We received a call that an armed robbery had just occurred around 11am," said Capt.. Joy Markland, remembering the crime that happened on August 27th, 2007 at Security Federal Bank on Charlie Robinson Drive.

"We arrived on scene and realized that a male subject entered the bank on foot," Markland said.  "He had brandished a firearm informing the teller it was a robbery demanding money."

Almost 6 years later, Captain Markland still studies the thick case file and the black and white surveillance video of the robbery as it happened.

According to witnesses, a man wearing a hat and sunglasses walked into the bank through the front door.   He casually let the teller know he wants cash.  The teller gave him money, and the man casually walked out the door.

At that point, police say it's like the man vanished.

"We have spoken to people working in the area, shoppers and people in the area," Markland said.  "We've had the video put out to the public.   We've just not received any credible information about a potential suspect."

Police say the robber was between 5'6 and 5'9 and about 300 pounds.

"Once again, we are trying to ask for the public's help to get this man identified," Markland said.

If you have information that could help Elizabethton Police, call 423-542-7574 or 423-542-4141.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, "Scammers use cameras, keypad overlays, and skimming devices - like a realistic-looking card reader placed over the factory-installed card reader on an ATM or gas pump - to capture the information from your card's magnetic strip without your knowledge and get your PIN."
