Teresa Whitaker - WRBL

Teresa Whitaker

Teresa Whitaker began her career in television in 1987 as a production assistant. After six months, she was promoted to news where she began her reporting career as a general assignment reporter.

She eventually took over the City Government beat. During her tenure as a reporter, Teresa covered such events as the 1992 Presidential election as the campaigns made their way to Columbus, Ga., and visits by sitting Presidents. She has also appeared on Georgia Public television as a member of the media panel during gubernatorial and congressional debates.

Not long after she became a reporter, Teresa was promoted to the anchor desk. She's anchored mornings and weekends, and at noon. She now co-anchors the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts weeknights.

Teresa serves today as the Healthwatch reporter for WRBL, in addition to anchor duties. In the capacity of Healthwatch reporter, she produces a weekly story on health issues, exploring new treatments, the latest research, and offering viewers information that will help them make healthy decisions.

Teresa is a member of a local church where she divides her time singing in the choir and serving the homeless community through the Women's Ministry. She's also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service sorority which exists to raise scholarship funds, promote education, economic development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness.

Teresa has been recognized for her work by several organizations including the Associated Press, the American Legion, Toastmasters International, the NAACP, her alma mater, and she was voted one of the most influential women of Columbus. She enjoys talking to students about her career and the importance of developing good communication skills. She regularly reads to first graders in order to share her love for books. Teresa is also a well sought after speaker and emcee for various events.

Teresa earned her Associate of Arts degree from CVCC, her BA in Mass Communications from West Georgia College (now known as the University of West Georgia). She's a graduate of Kendrick High School.

Teresa is proud of the fact that she's an "Army Brat." When her father was in the army, she and her family traveled to several states and Germany. On her days off, Teresa loves spending time at home with her beloved dog, Pepper, a Pomeranian mix.
