Alabama Fire Warning for Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Central Alabama is under a warning for increased fire danger because of persistent, dry weather conditions.

The National Weather Service put its red flag warning in effect from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday. The weather warning covers 39 counties in the middle of the state.

Forecasters say low humidity, warm temperatures and strong winds of 5 to 10 mph are creating conditions for rapid spreading of any fires that break out. Residents are being urged to cease any outdoor burning.

Counties covered by the warning are: Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
