Insects indicate more than spring is around the corner

Posted: Updated:

I was taken aback when anchor Phil Scoggins said, "Bob have you ever seen a green lady bug?" "Certainly not!", I exclaimed. It must be more than a sign of the Spring 2013 season, perhaps a little luck of the Irish. St. Patrick's Day is almost here.

Look for a ten degree jump for daytime high readings compared to Thursday. Today and Saturday the high pressure center is nearly overhead creating the perfect conditions for subsiding air, and warmer than average readings, which will be present through Monday. Monday a frontal system will  weaken the ridge slightly, with just enough warm air ahead of it, and cooler air aloft to bring a few convective clouds; and a pop-up storm or two. This front will also trigger a few showers through Tuesday morning as it moves through the region. Cool but pleasant conditions will follow before we climb back to average readings by the end of next week.

Friday: Sunny and mild, with a high near 72. Light west wind becoming southwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Friday Night: Clear not as cool, with a low around 50. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday: Sunny and warm, with a high near 77. Light west wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 52. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: Morning high cloudiness then becoming sunny, with a high near 76.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 54.

Monday: A few showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75.

Monday Night: Showers and slight chance of a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and breezy, with a high near 67.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46.
