SMITHS STATION, Ala. -

The top-ranked Smiths Station Panthers used some late runs to knock off Eufaula, 8-4, Friday night in a non-conference matchup.

Smiths Station is the no. 1 team in 6A in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.

The Tigers struck first in the top of the first, but Smiths Station answered in the bottom of the second. Nick Watford singled to right, that scored Ulysses Fluellen with the tying run.

After Eufaula added another in the third, the Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the inning. First, Dylan Tomlin singled to right off the Eufaula first baseman's glove. That drove in Tyler Lynn.

Then, with Lynn on third, Fluellen split the gap in right center, scoring Lynn, and winding up at third with a stand-up triple.

Nigel Lawrence went the distance on the mound for the Panthers in earning the win.
