A new development in the investigation of a pedestrian death that involved a Columbus Police Officer.
26-year-old Jacquese Harris was on her way to Club Ciroc in October, when she was struck and killed by a police cruiser driven by officer Kelly MacDonell. The Georgia State Patrol investigation is complete and has been delivered to the District Attorney's Office.
The mayor called on the Georgia State Patrol to investigate. The investigation took several months. However Tomlinson say citizens can be confident there was an unbiased assessment of the facts.
Tomlinson made verbal and written pleas to GSP during the assessment, encouraging the completion of the investigation, so there could be resolution for officer macdonell, who is on administrative leave pending the results.
Tomlinson is also hoping to bring closure to Harris' grieving family.
News 3 reached out to District Attorney Julia Slater this afternoon and awaits a response. No word yet, if the officer will face any charges. News 3 will bring you the results from
the investigation as soon as they become available.
The Harris family is being represented by Attorney Stacey Jackson. At the time of the accident, witnesses at the scene told News 3 the officer was speeding without emergency lights or sirens.
