Bice no-hits Red Devils, Columbus rolls

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Columbus High junior pitcher Will Bice threw a no-hitter as the Blue Devils shut out Phenix City-Central, 11-0, Monday afternoon at Randy Jordan field.

Bice struck out seven and never allowed a runner past first base. He was a hit batter and a walk away from a perfect game.

Columbus got the scoring started in the second when Luke Thompson doubled to left center, scoring Will Kilgore. Thompson would later score on a throwing error by the Central shortstop, and Columbus was on its way.

After three in the second, the Blue Devils added five in the third and three more in the sixth, those coming on a run-rule-induced walk-off home run from Thompson, who finished the day 2/3 with five runs driven in.

Hunter Swilling added three hits and three RBI.

Taylor Mitchell struck out three in 3.2 innings for the Red Devils.
