Atlanta city council won't vote on bonds for new Falcons stadium

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -

A vote that would issue bonds for the Atlanta Falcons' new stadium will not take place Tuesday. This comes one day after the Atlanta City Council approved a financing plan for the facility.

A spokesperson for Invest Atlanta, the city's economic development arm, said the board needs more time to review recent amendments made to the agreement.

The city council's 11-4 vote on Monday removed one of the last hurdles for the downtown project that will replace the 20-year-old Georgia Dome with a $1 billion, retractable roof stadium for the NFL's Falcons.

The bonds, if issued, would be backed by city hotel-motel taxes.
