MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga -

The First Alert Weather Team was on the air Monday evening when this entire line of severe thunderstorms, with hail, and a confirmed EF-2 tornado touched down around 6:10 PM EDT in Meriwether and Pike counties in Georgia .

Meteorologist David Reese was first to spot the rotation while we were both on-air warning folks of the damaging hail that was fast approaching the Ladonia and Phenix City areas. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City was able to confirm wind speeds to about 120 mph.

Tornadoes range from EF-1 to EF-5, which is the most severe. After the National Weather Service assessed the area, which extended in a portion of Pike County, meteorologists said the tornado hit a rural area, which toppled thousands of trees in both counties.
