The next wave of smartphones and tablets may be equipped with screens made from manufactured sapphires.
A sapphire smartphone screen won't break when you drop it and it would be virtually scratch-proof.
Apple currently uses manufactured sapphire to protect the camera lens on its i-Phone 5.
The only catch could be price.
A sapphire display for a smartphone would cost about 30-dollars.
Screens made by Corning's Gorilla Glass which are now on more than one-billion devices cost three-dollars.
