Hudson named Braves' starter for Opening Day

ATLANTA, Ga. -

Former Glenwood Gator, Chattahoochee Valley Pirate and Auburn Tiger Tim Hudson will get the ball for the Atlanta Braves' season opener April 1 against Philadelphia at Turner Field.

It will be the sixth opening day start in Hudson's career.

Hudson gets the nod over Kris Medlen, who started the Wild Card game against St. Louis last season. Both pitchers have struggled so far this spring, but Hudson pitched well in his most recent outing, striking out five in six scoreless innings against the Nationals.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez announced that following Hudson, the rotation will consist of Paul Maholm, Medlen, Mike Minor and former top prospect Julio Teheran.

The 37-year-old is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA in his previous five opening day starts. Two have come with Atlanta.
