FAA closing 149 regional airport control towers

The FAA announced Friday it's planning to close 149 regional airport control towers due to forced spending cuts.

The plans involves closing the towers over a four-week period beginning on April 7th.  Critics worry shutting down the towers could impact safety.

But the FAA says it will manage the system by reducing volume, not reducing safety. That means air travelers heading to to major cities such as New York and Chicago could experience big delays during peak hours.
