Columbus Police Investigate Fatal Nightclub Shooting - WRBL

Columbus police trying to identify suspect in latest murder

Posted: Updated:

A 20-year-old man is dead after a shooting at the Foxy Lady Lounge nightclub in Columbus.

Shannon Calvin Fields Jr., of Columbus, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was shot in the arm and foot. He has been treated and released from the hospital.

Police said the shooting happened around 2 AM Wednesday morning inside the club on Victory Drive.

Several people were inside the building at the time and many have been questioned about the incident.

Twenty-seven-year-old Hernandez Wilson frequently visits the strip club and was at the lounge about 10 minutes before the shooting happened. He said there was no indication that something bad was about to happen.

"Wasn't no altercation, no altercation, no nothing. Like this is totally bizarre to me. It make me feel like it was a dream. I'm tired of every club I go to if I was to step in the bathroom I'm seeing somebody straightening up a pistol in theiI belt, not even in a holster," Wilson said.

Police are searching for a motive in this latest shooting. Two years ago, Fields was acquitted in the 2010 shooting death of army veteran, Wayman Glenn James, in Columbus. Authorities believe he, along with Ronnie Blue, Willie Jones and Tavares Lowe robbed James. Authorities said it does not appear that Fields' murder early Wednesday is connected to that case.

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said because of this shooting the city is pulling all the police calls and incident reports stemming from the Foxy Lady Lounge to see if the establishment rises to the level of being a criminal haven.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Columbus Police at 706-653-3400.
