Police identify victim and murder suspect in East Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Police are searching the neighborhood near Mill Branch Road and Amber Drive where the suspect in a fatal shooting was last seen.

Police have identified the gunman as 37-year-old Robert Junior Taylor. He is wanted on a charge of murder.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. Friday at the apartments located at 4249 Debby Street.

Police say Taylor shot his girlfriend, 32-year-old Lakeisha Shoulders, then fled the scene in a vehicle with his nine-month-old daughter.

After leaving the child with his parents, police say Taylor fled again on foot near Mill Branch Road.

Coroner Freeman Worley pronounced Shoulders dead at 1:36 p.m. at the Medical Center.

After learning about the shooting, Muscogee County School District placed Kendrick High and East Columbus Magnet Academy on lock down, but students were released at the normal time.

Investigators were dusting a blue pickup truck for fingerprints on Mill Branch Road Friday afternoon.

    An Amber Alert has been canceled after 2-year old Maliah Harris was found safe in Georgia. Her 7-month-old sibling, Alyssa, was found dead and Maliah disappeared from a Mississippi home which prompted authorities to issue the alert. The girls parents, Donald Boyd Harris,34, and Allison Studdard, 31, are now in custody.
