Opelika begins using red-light safety cameras

Posted: Updated:

Red-light safety cameras are now up and running in Opelika. Starting Monday, the four cameras have begun snapping pictures of motorists who disregard traffic safety signals.

April will serve as a warning month. Violators will receive a "courtesy warning notice," instead of a fine. After April, each offense earns a $60 ticket.

The cameras are located at several intersections across town. There is one where Frederick Road meets Highway 280. Also, at the intersection of 280 and Pepperell Parkway as well as the intersection of Highway 280 and the I-85 off ramp. There is also a camera at the intersection of Highway 15 and US 431.
