Columbus Crime Stoppers asking for help finding alleged car thief

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Crime Stoppers along with the Columbus Police Department are asking for the public's help locating a suspect car thief.

Columbus Police say the incident occurred around 1:30 pm on February 6th. They say a royal blue 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible was stolen from the parking lot of a recreation center on Benning Drive. The vehicle was then spotted in the area of Veterans Pkwy and 5th Avenue, leaving the Fuel Tech gas station, but fled from officers towards Phenix City.

A review of surveillance tapes at the gas station show the driver as a black male,in his mid 20's, with a thin mustache, wearing a white beanie and white shirt. The passenger is described as a black male wearing dark clothing. A black female was occupying the back seat wearing a light colored jacket. The individuals are believed to live in the area of Columbus or Phenix City.

The unoccupied vehicle was recovered several days later in a parking lot off of 2nd Avenue with extensive damage to the exterior and interior.
