Some players shining in Auburn practice

Posted: Updated:
AUBURN, Ala. -

While allegations spread around Auburn, the Tigers are still having spring football practice.

The physical practices continued for the Tigers Friday morning. They are about halfway through spring practice.

Rhett Lashlee says they most likely will not name a starting quarterback this spring. And Ellis Johnson says the Tigers defense must improve their tackling to thrive in the SEC.

"So what we have tried to do is put a tremendous emphasis on tackling every day in our drills," said Johnson. "Obviously when we are allowed to tackle live, hopefully we will improve in that area."

"We are very inconsistent with our accuracy," said Lashlee. "Neither one of them are processing the information fast enough. Six practices in that are probably to be expected. We are putting something new in every day."

The coaches say some players are beginning to stand out.

"If you include the star position, we moved Justin Garrett out there," said Johnson. "He is without a doubt, what I'm talking about is tackling, he is the best we got."

"I think Jaylen Denson has been very consistent for us," said Lashlee. "CJ Uzomah has been very consistent for us. Reese Dismukes has been not only consistent, but vocal as a leader. I've been proud of that for him."

The Tigers will have their first full scrimmage Saturday. Coaches say this is an opportunity for players to stand out and prove why they deserve to start.
