UPDATE: Autopsy today on man killed in Manchester police shootout

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

An autopsy will be performed today on a man killed in a shootout with police officers in Manchester. David Long, 25, died Friday morning. GBI investigators told News 3 that Manchester Police officers were checking out a report of a stolen tag when Long came running from a wooded area off Nebula Road, firing a gun. The officers fired back, killing Long near a barn. Coroner Charles Worley said preliminary results may be back sometime this afternoon. The autopsy is being conducted at the Crime Lab in Atlanta. GBI Special Agent in Charge Wayne Smith says he believes more than stolen car tags were involved. The case remains under a "Use of Force" investigation, which Smith says is typical in cases like this.
