Muscogee County school board considers new school security plan

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

A new school security plan was presented before the board during Monday night's work session.

Interim Superintendent Dr. John Phillips told the board that in the wake of the deadly massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut he asked the district's Chief Administrative Assistant Gary Gibson to re-evaluate Muscogee County's plan.

Gibson presented the plan, explaining is has five main components: Lockdown; Alert; Take action; Evacuate if possible; and Resist as a last resort.

The plan will be voted on during the board's next meeting on April 22nd.
