KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -

A Kingsport couple faces child abuse and neglect charges after police found the family living in bug invested home.

According to the police affidavit, an officer was called to 900 Tranbarger Drive #16 on a disturbance call. Inside the home the officer said he found a boy sitting on the couch with paper stuffed in his ears. When asked why, the boy replied "It keeps the bugs out."

The report said there were bugs and roaches on the walls, kitchen sink, floor and tables. The officer also stated there were several cats and dogs inside the home, and he saw feces on the floor. The officer also reported there was a strong odor of urine and feces in the home.

Accord to police, Robert Fortin told the officer he could not clean, because he "has a job."

Police charged Robert and Crystal Fortin child abuse and neglect. Investigators would not comment on who now has custody of the child.
