EF-2 Tornado in East Alabama

NOTASULGA, Ala. -

Thursday night's storm in Macon County, Alabama produced a tornado that has been rated EF-2 by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham.

The twister touched down around 8:34 PM, Central Time approximately 4 miles southwest of Notasulga.  It stayed on the ground for approximately 5 miles with a path width that widened to 200 yards at one point, and lifted just after crossing into Lee County at about 8:44.

Several homes were damaged by the tornado, one mobile home was destroyed and another received significant damage.  The EF-2 rating came from damage to a well-built two story home in Macon County after the tornado crossed State Highway 14.

One minor injury was reported from flying glass.
