Local Boston Marathon Veteran Reacts to Explosions

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ga.  Local Boston Marathon veteran Cecil Cheves is not only a runner but a marathon race director.  He directs the Soldier Marathon run each year in Columbus.

Cheves has run in the Boston Marathon five times and is determined to return again.  In light of today's explosions in Boston, Cheves told News 3, "In two weeks I am running a marathon in Oklahoma City and if anything it gives me more impetus.  I want to qualify for the Boston Marathon so that I can go next year and show whoever these people are that we as Americans are not going to be cowed and we're not going to bow and we're not going to run."

Cheves said five or six runners from the Soldier Marathon in Columbus last November qualified for the Boston Marathon.  One of those runners was Crocket Miller from Columbus.
