Saban: "We need to have a purpose"

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -

If one believes Nick Saban, there is one area where the two-time defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide are behind their opponents:

Motivation.

Saban says every other team in the Southeastern Conference has a built-in motivating factor. That factor? Beating the Alabama Crimson Tide.

"The challenge is there's a lot of teams in our league that are hungry, a lot of teams in our league pointing at us and what they'd like to do for us and we don't really just have something right now," Saban said. "We need to have a purpose because we want to be good. We got some things that we can accomplish with this team."

Saban made these comments exactly a week prior to the Alabama spring game on April 20. He says he'll use that game to determine which players on his team can handle the gameday environment.

"This Saturday, we hope to see a lot of improvement in our team," he said. "More guys going out there to go out and play with some consistency. Make it a little bit more like a game for the players and see who can operate in that circumstance."

Alabama's A-Day is April 20, kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m./2:00 p.m. CST.
