CSU Golf wins Athletes of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus State men's golf team used a solid performance in the Grub Mart Intercollegiate to capture the latest WRBL Athletes of the Week award.

Redshirt freshman Robert Mize—son of 1987 Masters champion Larry Mize—played well enough in that tournament to capture Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week honors.

"We've been doing well," Mize said. "We're fairly young, so we've had a lot of seconds, a lot of thirds, and it's been good to get in the final round, get in the final group, get the experience there of kind of the adrenaline coming in."

Along with Mize, Jessie Gibson helped the Cougars to that fourth-place finish.

"I feel if we straighten up a couple things, just a couple high rounds, if we can just keep those in the lower numbers, we'll be set for the postseason," he said.

Speaking of the postseason, the PBC tournament is looming, but head coach Mark Immelman has his sights set higher.

"Regionals early May, national championship mid-May, but thankfully for us, the conference championship is not really going to define our position going into the regional," Immelman said. "If we win, great, but really, we're going to the NCAAs anyway."
