JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

Johnson City Police just released information about a fatal crash Thursday night.

The victim was identified as William Joey Penix, 1825 Lakeview Drive, Johnson City.

Here's the full news release:

"On 4/18/2013 at about 6:50 pm, officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to the 1100 block of E. Oakland Ave. to investigate a traffic crash. The investigation revealed that a green 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck traveling west on E. Oakland Ave. left the roadway and overturned several times before coming to rest. The driver, identified as William Joey Penix, 1825 W. Lakeview Dr. #D31, d.o.b. 4/14/1955, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. At this time, the reason for the crash is undetermined; the preliminary investigation shows speed as a factor. The involvement of drugs or alcohol is undetermined at this time. The investigation will be continued by the Department's Traffic Crash Reconstruction team."

 



 

Johnson City police are investigating a fatal accident that happened Thursday.

Police tell News Channel 11 they were called to a single vehicle accident on Oakland Avenue around 7 P.M.

Witnesses told police the driver of a pickup truck was left of the center lane, then overcorrected causing his truck to flip.

The driver was pronounced dead on scene. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The family has been notified, but as this time police are not releasing the drivers name.

The investigation is on going.
