19 year-old Columbus man arrested; charged with murder

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Nineteen year-old Shakeim Malcolm Dorsey was arrested around 6 PM Friday and charged with murder. 

Police made a traffic stop on a vehicle at 38th Street and 3rd Avenue. Four people were inside the car and an officer noticed one of them fit the description of the suspect. He was taken to the police department where he was identified as Dorsey. Dorsey has also been charged with aggravated assault for shooting at a 16-year-old girl.  

Dorsey is accused of fatally shooting Twenty-eight-year-old Derickes Maurice Miles in the back Friday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at 2:07 PM.

Investigators said early this afternoon Miles and a woman went to an apartment located at 3413 C 6th Avenue to check on someone who was reportedly being assaulted. Once they arrived, an argument began between a man and woman and escalated to involve several people, including the victim. The suspect then started shooting. Miles ran from the apartment but was fatally shot. He collapsed near Ridgecrest Baptist Church an died at the hospital.

    Two tractor-trailers collided Friday morning in Phenix City.It happened on US-431 near Chattahoochee Valley Community College.Officials say a tractor-trailer carrying recycled cans flipped over- after it couldn't stop at a red light. The semi then slammed into a car and a logging truck. Crews cleaned up the cans that spilled onto the highway as traffic backed up for miles. Nothing spilled from the logging truck. 3 people were sent to the hospital--but no one was seriously injured.
