Postal work moving from Johnson City to Knoxville

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Postal cancellation will end at the Johnson City Post Office.

According to the Johnson City Press, the move this summer will mean the loss of about seven jobs.

U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Susan Wright said outgoing mail service from zip codes 376 and 242 in Tennessee and Virginia will be affected.

That mail will be cancelled at the Knoxville postal facility. Wright said a declining volume of mail allows the Knoxville center to easily absorb the cancellations from Johnson City.

The decision comes in the wake of a USPS study sparked by a 25% decline in first-class mail since 2006.
