COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Women or men suffering discomfort from varicose veins can attend a free vein clinic in Columbus.

Varicose veins or spider veins, affect half of people 50 years and older. The veins become twisted and knotty, making it difficult for blood to circulate.

Dr. Fred Burdette, a Vascular Surgeon and Vein Specialist with St. Francis Vein Specialists, says left untreated, varicose veins can lead to serious complications.

The Free Vein Clinic Screenings will be held Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Center for Breast Health at St. Francis, 3720 Woodruff Road. To make an appointment for the clinic, call 706-257-7700 to reserve your spot.

It is free, but the ultrasound is not. Dr. Burdette says most insurance companies should cover.
