Columbus wins region title in convincing fashion

LaGRANGE, Ga. -

The Columbus Blue Devils are the 5-AAAA regular season champions after defeating Carrollton, 12-4, in a tie-breaker five-inning minigame on Wednesday.

The teams were tied atop the region standings, so they met in the middle at LaGrange College to play the tiebreaker. Columbus—playing as the visiting team—put up three in the top of the first, then broke things open with a seven-run second inning.

Columbus has now won 11 consecutive region titles.

Robin Geven finished the day three for three with two runs driven in. Luke Thompson added two hits and four RBIs. Will Bice got the win on the mound for giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits in 3.1 innings.

The Blue Devils now finish the season with three non-region games (home against Harris County, at Marist and at Parkview) before the playoffs begin.
