The Muscogee County school board is one step closer to hiring a new superintendent. The district announced Friday that the first set of interviews are scheduled for Sunday, in Atlanta.
As well the announcement, school board Chairperson Rob Varner also released a short statement. Varner's statement said, "We are pleased to announce we have now reached the interview stage."
Varner also explained that the interviews are being held in Atlanta, at the offices of the search firm, because they are close to the airport, and the firm is letting the board use the space for free.
The interviews will be conducted behind closed doors, in Executive Session. Also in his statement Varner explained that if finalists are chosen from this candidate pool, their names will then be released to allow public input.
A representative from the Muscogee County school district tells News 3 that so far, the search for a new superintendent has cost take payers a little more than $44,000.
