Russell County advances, Smiths Station, Auburn split

Russell County became the first local team to clinch a berth in the state quarterfinals on Friday, sweeping Rehobeth 5-2 and 11-0 in a doubleheader.

They will face the winner of Valley and Marbury next week in the quarterfinals. Valley fell in game one of their doubleheader, 3-2 in 10 innings.

In 6A, Smiths Station and Auburn split a doubleheader. The Panthers won game one, 9-4, and Auburn claimed game two, 5-3. They will play a deciding winner-take-all game three on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

In 4A, Beauregard knocked off Childersburg in a class game one, 3-2 in 11 innings.
