CITRUS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A mother who was been arrested for the death of her 2-year-old daughter Thursday according to Citrus County Sheriff's Office records, had her first court appearance Friday morning in Citrus County.

Chelsea Huggett is accused of shaking her daughter Aliyah Marie Branum, and slamming her head into a wall and her crib, until she lost consciousness.  Branum died on April 26. No bond is set in Huggett's case.

The arrest affidavit states that Huggett first told deputies her daughter died because her boyfriend had sprayed bug spray.  When Branum was taken to the emergency room, doctors there found she had bleeding on her brain, in addition to external bruising and swelling on her face.

The medical examiner later confirmed that the little girl had a frontal skull fracture and "hemorrhaging covering the entire brain area."

Sheriff Dawsy said Huggett later confessed to shaking her daughter because she would not stop "whining".  When asked if he thought Huggett "snapped", Dawsy said: "This wasn't snapping.  This was a brutal murder."

"I can only use the word horrific end to a 2 year old's life," the Sheriff said.

Detective Craig Fass says Huggett is remorseful.

"She was asked several times what she would tell Aliyah if she could and she apologized and she apologized for killing her," said Fass.

Huggett, who is 8 months pregnant, is charged with murder and aggravated child abuse. She has her dead daughter's name tattooed on her chest.
