COLUMBUS, Ga. -

WRBL's Partners in Education, Loyd Elementary School on Fort Benning, took home top prize Tuesday, at the annual Partners in Education Awards Banquet.

The partnership with Loyd, TIC Federal Credit Union and the 258th Infantry earned the title of Partnership of the Year for 2013.

The partnership was also recognized as having one of the top four projects of the year, by developing and enriching the faculty experience.

"These are the children of our soldiers. we have a special connection with these kids. They're like my own children," said Lieutenant Colonel Jeffery Crapo, the Battalion Commander for the 258th.

Julie Pelletier, the P.I.E. coordinator for Loyd Elementary added, "I think us working together makes an impact on the kids. but these partners, its almost a contest, who can do more, who can do more, who can do more."

"It's about community partnership between the military, between businesses, between media organizations that really show that people care about children," said Jessica Johnson with TIC Federal Credit Union.

P.I.E. is sponsored by the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. The program provides 230 partnerships with schools across various local counties, as well as Fort Benning.
