Friends of the Library semi-annual book sale is this weekend

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Friends of the Phenix City-Russell County Library need your help this weekend. They are holding their semi-annual book and bake sale at the library. Books are available at prices as low as $.50. One member has also made various plants and flowers available for purchase. Many of the organization's members are offering sweet and savory treats as well. Joy Schrage is one of nearly four dozen members of the organization. She told News 3 Midday that these sales generally raise about $2,000 each time they're held. That money helps fund activities and needed supplies that are not included in the supplements received by the library. One example is children's programs in the summer. Hours for the sale are Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. EDT and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT. The sale is at the Phenix City-Russell County Library.

Instead of destroying them, The Columbus Police Department is selling hundreds of seized guns. Some of the guns were used in crimes, others were found on the road- all of them now headed back to the streets.“The policeman in me says I’d rather not see that gun back on the street, we’ve already gotten a hold of it once, but you’ve got 550 guns- will every one of them be used in a crime? No. Some of them will be sold to someone that will enjoy the use of that gun for the rest of their life and ...
