Hardaway splits doubleheader with Northgate

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Hardaway Hawks split a doubleheader with Northgate on Thursday, winning game one 1-0 and dropping game two, 5-4.

That means the two teams will play a winner-take-all game three on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. to determine who advances to the second round of the GHSA AAAAA baseball playoffs.

Hawk starter CJ Brown was the star of game one. The lefty ran his season record to 10-0 with a masterful, one-hit, seven-strikeout performance. The game was scoreless until the fifth, when Will Griggs drove in Blake Rupp from second with the game-winning run.

In game two, Northgate led 4-3, and got a huge insurance run in the fifth inning to make it 5-3. In the seventh, Rupp led off with a double, then advanced to third on an error and scored on a passed ball.

Josh Anthony batted as the tying run. He hit one right on the button, but right at the Northgate pitcher who snagged it for the final out.
