Uncle charged in Tampa boy's death bailed out

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The man arrested in connection with the shooting death of his 3-year-old nephew in Tampa, was released from Orient Road Jail on bond Wednesday before his first court appearance scheduled for Thursday morning.

Authorities charged Jeffrey Walker, 29, with culpable negligence in connection with the death of Jadarrius Speights, 3. Culpable Negligence is a third degree felony.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies told us, Walker shared a room with Speights at USF Gardens Apartments at 13144 North 22nd St. According to the HCSO report, Walker left a loaded 9 mm handgun unsecured in a backpack, Speights got the gun out of the backpack and accidentally shot himself.

The boy died from the injuries at Florida Hospital on Tuesday evening just after 7 p.m.

According to a press release put out by HCSO, Walker bought the gun at a gun shop in Tampa Bay area and has a concealed weapons permit. The boy's parents, Jasmine Bell and Trentin Speights were in the room at the time of the shooting, according to the HCSO report.
