Commissioner Announces Search Committee for next President of Columbus Technical College

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ron Jackson has announced the creation of an eight-person committee that will assist him in the search for the next president of Columbus Technical College.

A press release explains that the committee will interview a list of applicants then inform Jackson of their top three candidates to replace President Bob Jones, who is retiring on June 30.

Ben Richardson, the Muscogee County Solicitor General and chair of the Columbus Technical College Board of Directors, will chair the committee.

The other committee members are Janet Baker, retired vice president of AFLAC; Polly Bell, chief executive officer of MEA Federal Credit Union and member of the Columbus Technical College Foundation; Mike Gaymon, president and chief executive officer of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce; Skip Henderson, team leader, Keller Williams Realty River City; Jacki Lowe, vice president, West Region, Georgia Power Company; Deborah Saylor, retired senior vice president, Patient Care Services, St. Francis Hospital, and member of the Columbus Technical College Board of Directors; and Murray Solomon, chair of the Columbus Technical College Foundation.

The committee will start interviewing applicants for the president's job during the coming weeks. The three finalists that it selects will be interviewed by the TCSG senior management before a final interview with Jackson at the system's Atlanta office. His choice for the next president of Columbus Technical College will be subject to approval by the state board that oversees the TCSG.

Jackson indicated that he hopes to name the new president before Jones departs on June 30.  If the process takes longer, then Jackson will designate an interim president to oversee the college.

    Heat and humidity continue

The bulk of the rain has been well to our west today and will stay that way for the duration of tonight and tomorrow. We'll only see an isolated shower or storm the next few days due to most of the tropical moisture lifting well north of us. That's all due to an area of low pressure in the upper Midwest that is sucking it all north. This will leave us on the warm and humid side of things, which is why isolated showers and storms are in the forecast the next few days.
