Columbus swept in second round

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

For the first time since 1998, the GHSA baseball playoffs will advance to the quarterfinals without the Columbus Blue Devils.

Columbus was swept at home in their second round doubleheader by Redan, 5-4 in game one and 9-4 in game two.

The Blue Devils led game one, 3-0, going into the top of the fifth inning, but saw the Raiders put up five in the frame. Columbus was able to answer with one in the bottom of the inning, but that was it.

Bobby Howard turned to junior right-hander Will Bice in game two, but for the first time all season, Bice did not have the good stuff. He lasted just 1.2 innings, giving up six runs, with Columbus trailing 6-1 after two.

Columbus finishes the year 19-11 overall.
