In an effort to save taxpayer dollars, and to maintain a well-manicured appearance, Sheriff Al Nienhuis is pleased to announce that inmates from the Hernando County Detention Center will now be responsible for the landscaping and grounds maintenance at both the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and the Hernando County Detention Center.

Grounds maintenance at these locations was formerly under county contract, and handled by Hernando County.  The contract included numerous other county-owned properties which required a great deal of care and attention.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said, "Professionally maintaining the grounds gives our inmates the sense of satisfaction that only comes from a job well done.  This feeling of accomplishment will, hopefully, encourage them to become productive contributors to our community once they resolve their current charges."

With the inmates performing grounds maintenance, both properties with be cared for on a regular schedule, ensuring a consistently professional appearance.
