21st annual "Keep Columbus Beautiful," awards luncheon held Thursday

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The "Keep Columbus Beautiful," Commission held its 21st annual Community Awards Luncheon Thursday.

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson helped to kick off the event, while the reigning Miss Georgia, Leighton Jordan served as Mistress of ceremony.

Those honored for their beautification efforts included News 3's Partner in Education school, Loyd Elementary, which has made sweeping changes to its campus.

Dr. Edward Kinner was awarded the prestigious Edna Kendrick Award for its his tireless efforts toward river conservation.

"Keep Columbus Beautiful," Director Gloria Weston Smart encouraged all of those in attendance to become good stewards of the community. The music for the event was provided by students from Reese Road Elementary.
