Smiths Station trio signs NLIs

SMITHS STATION, Ala. -

Three Smiths Station senior baseball players signed national letters of intent Thursday morning.

Dylan Tomlin (Southern Union), Austin Whitlock (Wallace) and Ulysses Fluellen (Pensacola State) all signed, meaning that all eight seniors from the 2013 Panthers team will play college baseball.

All three hope to make a splash as soon as they set foot on campus.

"I really enjoy it down there," Tomlin said of Southern Union. "They're really interested in me, so I'm looking to make a major impact my first year going down there. The coaches are really nice. They're going to prepare me for the next level, I'm excited."

For Whitlock, his work will begin in the weight room.

"When I go down there, [the coach] said he's going to put some size on me," he said. "He likes my ability, so he expects a lot out of me, and then he expects me to be playing at the next level after that."

Pitcher/outfielder Fluellen—who calls his changeup his best pitch—said he's excited to learn more about the game and test his abilities.

"They offered me the best offer," he said of Pensacola State. "I'm really excited about playing in that conference, and they have good competition down there."
