Posted: Updated:
PHENIX CITY, Ala. -

The anticipation of Whitewater is changing the landscape of the Phenix City side of the Chattahoochee River.

City and business leaders broke ground Friday on a new riverfront hotel. The 99 room Courtyard Hotel by Marriott will be built at 1400 3rd Avenue. It is being developed by Ram Riverfront Hospitality LLC, and is expected to cost 12-million dollars.

The groundbreaking boasts of the site's access to the river walk and white water rafting, which opens in May.

The 4-story, 67,000 square foot hotel is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014.
