Present for Mom: Great Weather!

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Some rain would be welcome this weekend, because we're headed for a bit of a dry spell next week.  But all signs point to Mother's Day being a day of fantastic weather here in the South.

A front moving through Alabama will trigger showers and thunderstorms Saturday night.  These will be scattered and move through quickly, so amounts will be fairly light and this won't be a prolonged event at all.  Some may not get anything at all due to the scattered nature of the showers.

All rain should be gone from the area by sunrise Sunday, with a second boundary slated to move through behind the first front that will bring a nice refreshing shot of cooler air and a good breeze out of the north.   Once again, this air mass is pretty chilly for May, and while that may be a problem for the northeast U.S., it's just perfect for us here in the South.  Highs Sunday and Monday won't make it out of the 70s, and we could be flirting with a record low on Monday morning as lows drop well into the 40s.

After Monday we start warming up again as the May sunshine does its work on the cool air mass. Temperatures will reach near 80º again on Tuesday, then jump to the mid-80s for the remainder of the week.  This will take place in a dry weather regime with no rain systems coming, and even by next weekend there will be nothing outside of the slimmest chance for a shower or two.
