Gas prices up in Florida, nationwide

Posted: Updated:

Florida gas prices have gone up in the past week and averaged at $3.45 according to GasBuddy.com That's 3.1 cents higher per gallon. The national average has gone up by 6.2 cents a gallon.

The AAA analysts attribute this to unstable crude oil prices and international political situation.

"Geopolitical tensions and hopeful economic news are keeping fuel prices elevated," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokesperson with The Auto Club Group. "Fuel prices should be much lower based on the current state of supply and demand."

A barrel of oil went for $96.04 at the end of the trades Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was 43 cents more than the week prior.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
