Patriot pair signs letters of intent

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Two Northside Patriots signed national letters of intent to play college athletics on Friday.

Mario Westbrooks will play college basketball at Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga, Tenn., after helping lead the Patriots to a AAAAA semifinal berth in his senior season.

"It just felt real welcoming," Westbrooks said, of Tennessee Temple. "Felt like they were going to work you hard, hard-working program, and I just want to continue to play basketball in college."

Baseball senior Chad Pigg will hit the college diamond just up I-185 at LaGrange College. He says he'll take lessons learned at Northside with him to the next level.

"Northside taught me a lot," Pigg said. "Just, basically, the work ethic. Coach [David] Smart instilled in us that we have to work hard, and that helped me a lot."
